The trees of the Chapultepec Park have been affected by the droughts that have occurred in recent years and that have worsened at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. This situation has caused the weakening of the wooded and has made the trees more susceptible to attack by pests and diseases.
According to a diagnosis carried out by technical personnel from the Park, it was detected that a large number of trees, particularly Ash, White Cedar and Pine species, showed greater signs of attack by barking insects, to different degrees of affectation, including dead trees.
For this reason, the Executive Directorate of the Chapultepec Forest, with the support of the Pro Bosque Trust, began in coordination a program of plant Endotherapy by stages, with the objective of preventing and avoiding pests and phytosanitary diseases in the trees of the Chapultepec Park, mainly the aforementioned species,
Plant endotherapy is a treatment, which is characterized by the absence of dispersion of chemical products in the environment, and a completely harmless technique for people and animals that can be applied at any time of day, this technique is based on the principle of movement of the vascular system of the tree from the root to the upper parts, in this movement, the products injected at high pressure are dissolved in the internal water and translocated towards all the tissues of the tree, in order to combat or repel the attack of insects and/or diseases caused by fungi or bacteria.
Through this program, comprehensive treatment is provided to the wooded areas of the Park, including a monitoring system, soil loosening, and targeted irrigation to individuals subject to treatment.
Likewise, a trapping system is carried out in the trees with the objective of identifying the type of insects or pests that are affecting the trees, and with this, taking preventive and/or corrective actions.
These endotherapy works are in charge of the company Injecthor de México S de RL de CV which applies a specific methodology.
