The Third Section of the Chapultepec forest is in a vulnerable state and the general perception is that it is abandoned, isolated and insecure. This happens because there are no opportunities for recreation and environmental education or family activities, sports or contact with nature.
During the diagnosis, several spaces were analyzed that have good infrastructure and are not used, an example of this is the Cri-Cri Park, located on Constituyentes Avenue. It has outdoor stages, playgrounds, viewpoints and bathrooms, all in poor condition. That is why it requires an urgent recovery to provide citizens with recreational opportunities.
Another abandoned space, with the potential to host recreational and cultural activities, is the Alfonso Reyes Forum, which has a capacity for 3,000 people and it´s rehabilitation and restructuring is contemplated.
The hiking trails do not have safe access to the forest ravines. It is planned to rehabilitate them for the enjoyment of this natural area. In this area, it is planned to offer different routes that allow the visitor to practice sports and to know in a safe way the Third Section. Some actions to be done are:
-Rehabilitation of existing trails.
-New signage.
-Guided visits.
-Facts about flora and fauna.
-Installation of sculptures and monuments.
-Installation of security cameras and emergency buttons
-Lighting and surveillance.
The total land that can be used for cultural activities and to implement environmental education projects is 4.9 ha. 70% of the areas will be for environmental recovery and 30% to house educational, cultural, environmental and sports activities. In this 30% a sustainable project must be carried out, economically and environmentally, so that it becomes an attractive space and trigger for the Third Section of the Chapultepec Forest.
