Casa del Lago’s mission is to promote and disseminate artistic and cultural expressions, offering a varied program that includes workshops, lectures, theater performances, concerts, film screenings, and temporary exhibitions.
In 1908, it was built as the headquarters of the Automobile Club. Later, its facilities were used as offices for the Administration and Management of Chapultepec Forest, until it was transformed into Casa del Lago in 1959.
This cultural center, inaugurated as the first off-campus venue of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), bears the name of its first director, Juan José Arreola. In the garden in front of the building stands a sculpture of the poet León Felipe, installed in 1973.
