At the entrance of Calzada Juventud Heroica stands the Altar to the Homeland, a work by architect Enrique Aragón Echegaray and sculptor Ernesto Tamariz that honors the six cadets of the Military College, known as the Niños Héroes, remembered for sacrificing their lives during the Battle of Chapultepec.
This monument, inaugurated in 1952, consists of six marble columns crowned with bronze eagles and torches. At the center stands “La Patria,” represented by a female figure holding one of the fallen cadets in her arms, while another stands heroically at her side.
The figures are wrapped in the Mexican flag, and at their feet the inscription reads: “To the defenders of the Homeland 1846–1847.”
