“El Sargento” is an ahuehuete tree considered one of the oldest in Chapultepec Forest. It is the second most famous ahuehuete in Mexico City, after the “Tree of the Sad Night.” According to tradition, “El Sargento” was planted by the Lord of Texcoco, Nezahualcóyotl, at the request of the Aztec emperor Moctezuma.
Some specialists suggest that it lived for approximately 500 years until it dried up due to lack of water and pollution in 1969.
