The Quijote Fountain is a literary tribute to Don Quixote de la Mancha, the masterpiece of Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. The tiles covering the four benches that surround the fountain date back to 1921 and display notable excerpts from the novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On both sides of the fountain, two columns hold sculptures of the novel\u2019s protagonists: one depicts Don Quixote with the face of Spanish painter Salvador Dal\u00ed, and the other shows Sancho Panza with the face of Mexican painter Diego Rivera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The original pieces, crafted in Seville by Miguel Alessio Robles, were stolen in 1974 and replaced by sculptures created by sculptor Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez Urbina, which have been substituted several times since. The fountain was restored and reopened in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
